History of our Temple

Late Rev. Karunegoda Piyatissa maha thero, a prominent Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, was then invited by the London Buddhist monastery for the specific purpose of teaching Buddhist practices and meditation in New York. He initially set up the New York monastery for this purpose. Lately his cleric students setup multiple Buddhist monasteries in the eastern United States. The Connecticut Meditation Center is the newest member grown up from the roots of the New York Buddhist monastery. Rev. Babarenda Sumedha led and pioneered this meritorious activity.

We welcome people from diverse communities

Our goal is to bring communities together to a common ground to mainly practice meditation. With this goal in mind, we also want to welcome people from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds to practice meditation. We encourage people not to discriminate against race, gender, class, age, education, and physical ability. By providing a safe and sacred space for people of all faiths and traditions to gather, learn, and develop inner peace.

Home Objective

We focus on mental and physical well-being

Throughout our Buddhist practices, we focus on improving mental well-being through meditation and physical well-being through Yoga practices. Within a calendar year, we conduct many sessions of meditation retreats. The meditation center continuously offers three meditation programs per week in small groups to the public for free. In addition, we would conduct prescheduled three-day or five-day meditation programs as camping retreats annually. Everybody is welcome to attend these programs that are designed to improve the mental health and spiritual needs of the mind to promote harmony in society.

Head thero's words

"Dear devotees, This sacred place is prepared for the supreme Dhamma of Lord Buddha, a place like a wall around this temple, which is being built as a meditation center for the healing of the human heart, I will offer gratitude to all of you who dedicate yourself to it. This temple is in a land of historical value, with religious and social aspects of Sri Lankan culture. It is also being prepared as a research center for meditation to enhance the mental well-being of the devotees. I would like to offer my gratitude to all who have contributed to the well-being of this institution so far."

Ven. Bambarande Sumedha Thero
